“We are forever indebted to Bear”: Dog credited for saving the burning church in Westchesterchester County

SOMERS, Westchester County (WABC) – Man’s greatest buddy is hailed because the guardian angel of a church in Westchester County.

Bear, a 4-year-old German Shepherd, awakened his proprietor early Sunday morning.

“It was a really alarming bark, it nearly appeared like a siren,” mentioned Kim Lewis. “And I opened the shutters and noticed the church on hearth.”

Lewis, a longtime parishioner from the Yorktown Meeting of God in Somers throughout the road, referred to as 911. Firefighters from a number of departments responded.

“The bear caught him rapidly and rescuers got here right here rapidly and stopped a devastating catastrophe,” Church Administrator Lisa Wain mentioned. “5 to 10 extra minutes and he was within the attic. It will hit {the electrical} system and destroy the entire constructing.”
